Wi4Net Launches FlexiRadio Wireless Broadband Solution
Wireless platform offers unique flexibility in architecture and frequency support
Reston, VA, July 2, 2007 – Wi4Net, a division of CelPlan Technologies, Inc. and a leading provider of integrated wireless broadband and video solutions, today launched its FlexiRadioTM wireless broadband communications platform. Developed over the past four years, and with first customer deployments completed, Wi4Net brings an innovative wireless broadband communications platform with unique flexibility in terms of architecture and frequency support. Although based on a standard Wi-Fi interface, FlexiRadio’s proprietary firmware enables point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and mesh architectures. With up to 6 radios per node, each radio can support unlicensed and licensed spectrum (4.9 GHz or 5.9 GHz).
“We recognized that current solutions have limitations in terms of flexibility of architecture support and frequency use,” said Leonhard Korowajczuk, CEO of CelPlan. “For example, a typical mesh product is designed for just mesh architectures; and a point-to-multipoint system is generally designed to do just that. We designed a system that not only can cover both licensed and unlicensed spectrum, but also can be configured as a point-to-multipoint system, multi-radio mesh or single-radio mesh.”
Each node can accommodate up to 2, 4 or 6 radios, depending on the selected configuration. Then, each individual radio can be programmed to support any band, with up to 33dBm transmit power in the entire 4.9 to 5.9 GHz band. Also, channel size is programmable to either 5, 10, 20 or 40 MHz. Each radio supports transmit and receive diversity as a standard, resulting in typical gains of up to 15dB. CardBus PC cards are available for mobile and vehicle-based implementations.
