City of Long Beach Expands Citywide Surveillance Network

Long Beach Redevelopment Agency enables city to expand camera system along The Promenade in the heart of downtown

Reston, Va., January 27, 2009 – Wi4Net, a division of CelPlan Technologies, Inc. and a leading provider of integrated wireless broadband and video solutions, today announced that it has completed the first portion of a 30-camera expansion that adds surveillance cameras along “The Promenade”. With complete redevelopment of this part of downtown, this pedestrian area provides accommodation for downtown living, shops and restaurants. The added cameras provide surveillance in this part and expand also into the convention center area. The first phase of the expansion adds 14 cameras, bringing the total system count to 43. The expansion also adds 18 TB of storage capacity.

The expansion leverages the FlexiRadio platform for backhaul communications and camera connectivity. The FlexiVideo suite provides for the ruggedized wireless pole camera units that have been mounted using existing government assets in the target areas. The camera units feature local video storage capability and battery backup, for continued service in case of a power or network outage. The added cameras will be monitored and controlled from the existing Wi4Net provided video management system, already in use with the City.

“We are extremely proud of this expansion,” said Jasper Bruinzeel, VP of Marketing and Sales for Wi4Net. “The expansion shows that with the right design, the licensed 4.9 GHz band offers tremendous potential for scalability. In the current Long Beach system, all 43 live camera feeds are aggregated, only in 4.9 GHz, to a single aggregation point. This achievement is unparalleled in United States today.”
