CelPlan Completes Ground-breaking High-Speed Trackside Wireless System Implementation for Amtrak

New solution is planned to boost Amtrak’s ‘AmtrakConnect’ Wi-Fi Service along Busy Northeast Corridor Route.

Reston, Va., November 30, 2015 – Wi4Net, a division of CelPlan Technologies, Inc. and a leading provider of integrated wireless broadband and video surveillance solutions, today announced it completed the deployment of a train-to-ground wireless network solution for Amtrak, US’ primary rail operator. This system enables Amtrak to provide passengers enhanced Wi-Fi onboard its trains. The initial “Proof of Concept” segment was implemented successfully by CelPlan in the course of this year, and Amtrak has indicated its intentions to extend coverage along parts of Amtrak’s Northeast corridor route, which connects Boston - New York - Washington and spans over 457 miles. The Proof of Concept solution was implemented on Amtrak’s Acela Express trains, travelling at speeds of up to 160MPH. The solution delivered 45+ Mbps to the train at 5.8 GHz along the entire track.

As the prime contractor of the Proof of Concept phase, CelPlan has been in charge of overall design, planning, implementation and project management. The project encompasses the roll-out of a high-speed wireless trackside network, implemented on trackside radio towers. This solution will give Amtrak complete control over all technical, operational, and budgetary aspects of its communications systems and allow it to significantly boost the Wi-Fi speed and reliability onboard its fleet.

Leonhard Korowajczuk, CelPlan’s CEO/CTO: “We are extremely honored to have been selected in this unique project deployment, with the goal of supporting an improved passenger experience. We are proud to be in the position to collaborate on this new technology deployment that will have many use-cases in other applications and industries, globally.”
