University of Texas Rio Grande Valley “Campuswide” Surveillance System
Unified, software-based solution upgrades and expands campus surveillance capabilities
Reston, Va., November 10, 2015 – Wi4Net, a division of CelPlan Technologies, Inc. and a leading provider of integrated wireless broadband and surveillance solutions, today announced that it has completed the implementation of an IP-based wireless network and unified surveillance system, integrating existing cameras, adding a wireless, 75-camera parking lot solution, and expanding surveillance capabilities of various facilities for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
“We are thrilled that we have been able to transition the security solution of our university to a state-of-the-art, open standards based IP system,” noted Carlos Rodriguez, Manager of Public Safety Systems for the university. “We had some initial coverage in some parking lots prior to this project through our older system, but the wireless solution was not suited for video support. In this upgrade, we got 5 megapixel camera resolution in our parking lots, supported over a new wireless infrastructure. We have also been able to transition from a proprietary system to a leading, standards-based solution that allows us to grow and expand in the years to come, and still leverage some of our past investments.”
The system incorporates currently already over 200 cameras, with 75 new 5 megapixel cameras to cover the parking lots in high resolution. The wireless solution features a scheduled protocol to support video-over-wireless in a reliable fashion.
