City Contracts Wi4Net for Citywide Surveillance Network
City of
Reading deploys network connecting cameras and providing mobile
4.9 GHz access
Reston, Va., August 28,
2008 – Wi4Net, a division of CelPlan Technologies, Inc. and
a leading provider of integrated wireless broadband and video surveillance
solutions, today announced it was awarded a five-year contract with
the City of Reading for the deployment and maintenance of a citywide
video surveillance network. The first phase of the project implements
22 cameras at locations throughout the City. The system backbone
is provided through a hybrid fiber-wireless solution offered in
collaboration with MAW Communications. The initial phase also includes
a mobility overlay in 4.9 GHz to provide for access to patrol vehicles.
“We are implementing
this video surveillance system as part of a larger effort to reduce
crime in our City, and we are extremely excited with the broad support
in our community,” said Chief William Heim with the City of
Reading Police Department. “CelPlan was able to offer a perfect
balance between cost and performance with their hybrid fiber-wireless
backbone approach which allowed us to optimize our grant funds allocated
for the project.”
The project utilizes
Wi4Net’s FlexiVideoTM product, incorporating the FlexiRadioTM
wireless communications system. The solution features a multi-radio
architecture which is crucial in scalable citywide video applications
to assure high system throughput and a superior level of predictability.
The wireless camera units are provided with leading camera technology
offering 35X optical zoom. Each camera streams real-time high resolution
video to a state-of-the-art centralized monitoring and storage system,
used for viewing, archiving and management.
“We are extremely pleased with the award of this contract,”
noted Jasper Bruinzeel, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for
Wi4Net. “Although wireless video systems are becoming more
common, the hybrid fiber-wireless backbone design and 4.9 GHz based
mobility overlay make this network a showcase in North America.”
